Your New Role


Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, the Assistant Accountant & Payroll Officer works closely with the finance team while liaising with senior management as required. This role is responsible for supporting the organisation’s financial operations through accurate payroll processing, financial reconciliations, compliance activities, and general accounting functions.

You will play an important role in maintaining financial integrity, supporting reporting processes, and ensuring payroll and accounting procedures are delivered accurately and in line with legislative and organisational requirements.



You will be responsible for




Payroll


  • Deliver end-to-end payroll processing including fortnightly payroll, verifying timekeeping records and travel allowances, and resolving discrepancies with employees.
  • Act as the main point of contact for payroll-related queries from employees.
  • Record employee and payroll data in accounting systems (Deputy and MYOB) and verify payroll amounts prior to processing.
  • Record and escalate payroll-related complaints or queries to Human Resources where required.
  • Maintain compliance with payroll procedures, policies, and documentation requirements.
  • Process employee terminations in line with legislative requirements.
  • Manage payroll calculations, adjustments, and ad hoc pay runs when required.
  • Recode salary allocations when necessary.
  • Manage the end-to-end superannuation payment process.
  • Ensure the accuracy of payroll data for new starters and existing employee records.


Assistant Accountant


  • Analyse financial records to identify and resolve errors or discrepancies.
  • Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial data and payments.
  • Process accounts receivable and grant-related invoices in a timely manner and follow up on outstanding debtors.
  • Prepare and post month-end journals including depreciation, prepayments, and internal recharge entries.
  • Process inter-company invoices and bills on a regular basis.
  • Prepare monthly IAS and quarterly BAS submissions.
  • Maintain and update the organisation’s fixed asset register.
  • Contribute to insurance-related questionnaires and compliance activities.
  • Support the Finance Manager with year-end closing processes and preparation of financial reports.
  • Undertake ad-hoc finance duties within the employee’s capabilities as directed by the Finance Manager or CEO.


Your Profile


You are a detail-oriented and organised finance professional with strong analytical capability and the ability to work collaboratively within a finance team. You are comfortable managing payroll processes while also supporting broader accounting functions and compliance activities.



To succeed in this role, you will have




Essential


  • Degree or qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field.
  • Experience in payroll processing and general accounting functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage reconciliations, financial records, and reporting processes.
  • Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation and accounting practices.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems such as MYOB and payroll/timekeeping systems such as Deputy.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
  • WA residency with full working rights.


Desirable


  • Experience working within the not-for-profit or community services sector.
  • Knowledge of ACNC, ORIC, or government funding frameworks.
  • Experience supporting BAS, IAS, and end-of-year financial reporting processes.
